Note: Kelly Varner was a prominent teacher of the Biblical truths coming out the Latter Rain Revival. He passed on to be with our Lord in 2009. Thankfully, his ministry continues and the website and his books are still available.

Much of our vision and calling is defined in what we believe, for we do what we ARE, we BECOME what we worship. First there is a WORD, and then there is a WORK. This Christ-centered calling is stated and revealed in a three-fold manner throughout the Bible (Prov. 22:20; Ex. 25:8, 40; Deut. 16:16; John 14:6; 1 Cor. 10:1-4, 11; 13:8-13; 2 Cor. 1:10; Eph. 4:8-16; Heb. 6:19-20; 8:1-6; 1 John 2:12-24):

Note: Pastor Varner's book, Prevail, A Handbook for the Overcomer, is recommended reading for a clearer insight into this three-fold principle, especially pages 84-85.

Many good ministries function and administer in the first and second dimensions of full salvation; they emphasize the new birth and the Baptism with the Holy Spirit. The New Testament Church has been called to experience these two Feasts of Passover and Pentecost; then we are to grow up to know the Lord in a third experience, the Feast of Tabernacles in the Most Holy Place. This third dimension swallows up and incorporates the first two; we are not doing away with our Baptist or Pentecostal heritage, but are building upon its foundation. Once established in the basics of present truth, we are to go on to perfection or maturity within the vail.

The following authors have taken the time to carefully document the claims and practices of those dedicated to Latter Rain outpouring. In the end, they tell us why they think there is error and try to persuade the reader to reject those views. Their writings are worthwhile to read since the research and documentation have been, for the most part, done fairly.
It is the opinion of this website owner, after considering all the opposing claims, that the biggest problem sticking in the "craw" of these detractors, is that Latter Rain ministries reject the notion of the pre-tribulation rapture. And, an entirely new systematic theology called dispensationalism had to be constructed around this doctrine to support it. I invite you to evaluate both views.

The rejection of the Latter Rain outpouring by the Assemblies of God is well documented. The deep fissure the AG caused in the Full-Gospel movement is mostly forgotten, although it is still visible if you know where to look. I belong to an AG church and, with rare exceptions, no one knows what happened over sixty years ago. My revelations to my brethren, especially when confronting them with the considerable problems inherent with dispensationalism, are soon met with glazed-over eyes. No one wants to fight with their brothers but ignoring the split is not good. Worse, as it has become more obvious with the passage of time that the Latter Rain view has merit, I have observed a strange mixture and confusion of practice in which there is acknowledgment that the Church has already entered "tribulation" yet we are still holding to being removed from it - perhaps a delayed rapture?
The Assemblies of God published a position document in 1948. I have not been able to find it. However, the AG re-published that document in the year 2000 - with a few additions of other movements of which they disapprove. Here is that document on the AG website:

It is interesting to note that Pentecostal scholars admit that personal experience advises their theology. Objective truth about the baptism with the Holy Spirit cannot be verified until it is personally experienced. Read this interesting paper on the AG website:

DETRACTORS - OF THE MOST DESPICABLE KIND - (Right-click, open link in new tab)

The following articles represent the worst misrepresentations of the Latter Rain views I have found. In these articles no effort was made to understand the viewpoints presented and they often misrepresent those viewpoints. They display a despicable lack of brotherly love under the banner of exposing error. I would remind them that eschatology is theory and not doctrine. Therefore, it is NOT the grounds for disfellowshipping anyone! The authors even go so far as to call anyone holding these views a heretic. Shame!
